Winter brings big changes to how our system operates. Throughout the summer, our team focuses on delivering beneficial reuse water to irrigate local golf courses and lawns, and to supply reclaimed water to ski resorts for snowmaking. These efforts help create the capacity needed for roughly 240 days of winter storage for our Class A-1 reclaimed water.
As temperatures drop and the ski season ramps up, we see higher wastewater flows from increased community activity, while irrigation nearly stops for the season. The biology at the Water Resource Recovery Facility also shifts as cooler temperatures slow some of the natural treatment processes, requiring our operators to carefully monitor and adjust to keep everything running smoothly. These seasonal changes are all part of what our team plans for year-round to ensure reliable service — no matter the weather.
